Wakkerstroom has long been known as the spot to see the special Grassland and Wetland birds . (Blue Crane, Blue Korhaan, Rudd's Lark & Botha's Lark). Take a picnic basket and camp out in one of the hides at the Vlei. Even better hire a bird guide for the day. Kristi from Birdlife SA can help you with that.


There are a number of exceptional  unique restaurants which are all worth experiencing.


Fancy some fishing? The area offers both fly fishing for trout or bass fishing in the surrounding dams.


There are marked  hiking trails , some longer distances and other shorter routes also.

Volksrust Golf Course is just a 20 minute drive away


There are 3 listed heritage buildings to see: The Court House, St Marks Church and The Kruger Bridge. The Cemetery is also steeped in military history. 


During the year there are different Art & Craft Courses available.


There are many incredible Photo Opportunities in Wakkerstroom and the surroundings.


You can conquer Ossewakop on foot or by 4x4- you will have a breathtaking view from on top.


Wakkerstroom is becoming a popular cycling destination, You can either do a short meander through town or explore the area on a longer mountain bike ride, the Info Centre has a route booklet available.
