Stayed here for 2 nights and didn't want to leave. Amazingly quiet at night. Very large rooms & (private) bathrooms. Extremely comfortable bed with quality linens.
The delightful hosts, Fay and Colin, claim to offer the best breakfast in Wakkerstroom. I'd challenge that with "perhaps the best breakfast in South Africa".
Whilst they offer no evening dining, the hosts have some super nearby (by car) restaurant recommendations.

"Home away from home"
I stay at this guesthouse at least once each month on business, the staff is always very welcoming and professional, the rooms is very well maintained, clean and homely. The breakfasts is exceptional and put this guesthouse in a league of it own. Wetlands is my prefered guesthouse whenever I'm in Wakkerstroom and definitely recommend it, especially for bird watchers.

"Beautiful"
We spent the night here together with our bird guide. We had a beautiful house with a fireplace and a nice terrace to sit outside. The garden is also beautiful with lots of birds and even a bush duiker in the morning. The breakfast was delicious, the owners are very hospitable and try very hard to please.

“Our stay at Wetlands was one of the best we have experienced in self catering accommodation.
"The cottage is spacious and beautifully furnished; the bathroom has a lovely walk in shower and deep claw bath with complimentary bath salts provided for a lovely soak. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped. Throughout the cottage we found helpful messages that remove uncertainty by explaining what to use, and how to do it.
The setting near the river and looking up to the ridge is peaceful and expansive - all you can hear is nature. Although we went out bird watching we could have simply sat on our verandah and waited as they all came to visit ”

As for Colin and Fay who are now performing that duty, we want to congratulate you on your excellent choice. They are wonderful and loving people with a great sense of responsibility. We do not think one can find a better couple to manage Wetlands. They are hardworking, meticulous and caring ,not only for the visitors but also for Wetlands itself. The gardens look beautiful and the accommodation is super clean. We appreciate the efforts they put in to keep the guests safe in this Covid time.
Lastly we wish to mention the breakfasts at Wetlands. It is to die for. To Fay and her team, well done.

"Place of Tranquility"
We had an amazing weekend at Wetlands Country House, Wakkerstroom. All Covid 19 regulations in place when we arrived.
Host couple Colin and Fay welcomed all guests like Royal family. They are in one word AMAZING and without them at Wetlands the experience would not have been the same.
Besides this Wetlands described in one phrase "Place of Tranquility": the scenery, garden, overflowing dam exceeded all our expectations. The room and staff were excellent. We will definitely visit again.

Thank you for a great escape from the hustle & bustle of City life. We were warmly welcomed by Fay & Colin, with all the necessary Covid-19 hygiene and regulations. Fay gave us a run down of all the attractions in the area, and made sure we were satisfied with the room we booked. The room was well maintained, very clean and tidy. The surroundings were beautiful. I would recommend this gem any day, not to mention the fantastic and caring management and scrumptious breakfast.

"What an awesome gem of a place."
My wife and I, joined some fronds on a bike trip over the weekend. Colin and Faye were gracious hosts and nothing was too much trouble, even helped us with a 4 wheel ride to town and back for supper.
The cow shed was fantastic, luxurious, cozy and romantic... Along with sherry and fire place. Substantially spread for breakfast, a definite return trip.

"Fabulous Winter Weekend"
What a wonderful place . Colin and Fay certainly made us feel so comfortable, to a point where we felt spoilt rotten . "Wonderful Hospitality"
We recently stayed at Wetlands for four days. It was a truly amazing stay. The rooms are extremely nice with incredibly comfortable beds. The gardens are beautifully maintained with even the footpaths down to the river that are mowed, with the result that birding on the property is just as nice as in the Wakkerstroom area. Best of all though is the wonderful hospitality shown to us by Colin and Marilyn and the absolutely fabulous breakfast served by Marilyn and her staff every morning. It was worth every cent. Thank you very much.

Wetlands hosted 18 bikers from the BMW Motorrad Club from Gauteng Central. Marilyn & her team treated us so well every single one of us felt at home & welcome. They serve an exceptional breakfast with surprises such as stewed fruit & fresh baked scones & flapjacks. The accommodation is lovely and the setting is beautiful- there were fresh roses all over. As Wetlands is a B&B we made arrangements with a local restaurant to cater for us & Marilyn & her team were absolutely accommodating. There is a reason that people return to Wetlands time and again. The birding group were treated to tea & rusks @ 05h30 in the morning!

Best Place to Stay in Wakkerstroom!
I was pleasantly surprised when I stayed for 3 nights in one of the Sheds. Clean room and linen with a comfortable bed. The fireplace looked so good to light up but not in Summer time, definitely if I visit again in Winter. I absolutely loved the complimentary Nespresso pods. Beautiful scenery and so peaceful! The room was spotless, and furnished with beautiful clean linen. All the plugs that one needs are available. Absolutely the best experience I have ever had in a self catering unit. Thank you so much. Peaceful and cosy. I would strongly recommend it.

"Overnight Oasis"

"We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a birding tour and it is my favorite of all the places we stayed in 3 weeks in S.A. The "sheds" are luxurious, beautifully furnished stone cottage with mountain views. They have a living room, wood-burning stove, exquisite bed and huge bath, sitting area, kitchen area and private patio with sunbirds that are practically tame. There was a carafe of sherry waiting for us on arrival. The main house had a dining room with views to the waterfall, antique furniture and breakfast to order, in addition to a lovely buffet of yoghurt, fruits, baked goods and cereals. The coffee was outstanding! The gardens in the arboretum-like setting are beyond beautiful. I wish I could have stayed here for a week. The staff is lovely, the host very accommodating and it is a 6 on a 5-star scale."

"Great Place"
"While the property is a bit off the beaten track, it is well worth the trip to get there. Rooms are HUGE, bathrooms are spacious, service is wonderful. Loved the small decanter of sherry in the room for an after dinner aperitif. They also serve a wonderful breakfast with both hot and cold items. As a birder, staying there is also a plus with the feeders and the dam in the back, lots of species can be seen right on the grounds. No TV in the room (thank goodness) but there is one in the lounge if you feel the need for news."

“Birders paradise”
I stayed in one of the sheds...amazing experience. Beautiful grounds and gardens, warm and friendly service, wonderful breakfast. And crowned cranes nearby! The shed included a wonderful bathroom with separate tub and shower, was well as comfortable bedding and seating areas and a small but fully functional kitchen. Laundry service was very reasonably priced as well.
